Nine individuals have been arrested in connection with a robbery in Mekele city

The suspects were arrested in Mekele North Sub-City around 6pm.
A group of six suspects, along with security forces, arrested a group of nine suspects who were trying to carry out a robbery with a sharp, silent weapon that could cause harm to individuals.

The suspects are being investigated and are said to be showing the results of their efforts to mobilize urban youth.

In Mekele, up to 250 youths have been organized in each sub-city by providing basic police training. Ten youths in each ward are being protected by the security forces with their badges.
Mekelle Zone Interim Administration Security and Security Sector Head, Gebremichael Hayalom, said a study is underway to implement a coordinated effort from the federal, state and city to better stabilize the city.
He said the system also includes sub-cities to enable coordination work from the bottom up.

City police say it needs more capacity building and resources.
He noted that in the past, he had lost his job in the area of regular police, adding that he had recently lost members.
He said the whereabouts of some of the missing members have not been confirmed yet and that they are being monitored.

Following the release of prisoners in Mekele Prison, it was discovered that they were re-involved in crime, and that the arrests would be made soon after the opening of the prison.
