Chelsea ‘in driving seat’ to sign Neymar ahead of Man Utd, Barcelona and Real Madrid
Paris Saint-Germain are thought to be ready to sell Brazilian superstar Neymar after a disappointing season, with Chelsea in pole position as they look to replace Romelu Lukaku.
Chelsea are thought to be in pole position to make a stunning move for Neymar, with a host of other top European sides also battling to sign him.
Neymar experienced a difficult campaign at Paris Saint-Germain last term, being part of a side that suffered an embarrassing Champions League exit to Real Madrid. Following that disappointment, the Brazilian was widely booed by his own fans.
With boss Mauricio Pochettino on his way out of the Parc des Princes and a new sporting director in Luis Campos, a shake-up is coming to the French capital. Part of that shake-up would appear to be the departure of Brazilian superstar Neymar.
The Ligue 1 champions paid a world-record £198million to sign him from Barcelona in the summer of 2017. But he has failed to hit the heights that were expected to come with such a hefty fee, with the 30-year-old unable to capture PSG’s most elusive dream – a Champions League trophy.
According to GOAL, Neymar’s attitude and poor form has led to PSG chiefs becoming open to letting him depart. His relationship with Kylian Mbappe has also cooled in recent years, with the young Frenchman now the leading light in Paris.
A move to the Premier League would appear to be most likely given the financial state of the other top sides across Europe. According to Sky Bet, Chelsea are currently in the driving seat to complete the mega-move with odds of just 7/1 for him to move to Stamford Bridge.
With Romelu Lukaku heading out on loan to Inter Milan and Armando Borja also likely to depart, the Blues require attacking reinforcements. Neymar would certainly bring that, even despite his relatively poor performances last season.
Barcelona and Real Madrid are seen as the closest challengers to Chelsea’s hopes at 14/1 each, though both have been hit be economic constraints. Newcastle are also said to be in the race, though GOAL report that Neymar would have little interest in joining the Magpies.
Manchester United and Manchester City are seen as being just behind those three clubs, with the Red Devils looking to bounce back from a dreadful campaign of their own. Liverpool and Spurs could also mount moves, though both are seen as being outsiders at this stage.
