Sexual harassment: a former member of the Zimbabwean Federation suspended

While the Zimbabwe Football Federation is suspended for government interference, a former member is pinned on suspicion of sexual harassment. The FIFA Ethics Committee has decided in the Norbert Zihoya case. The ZIFA Referees Committee’s former secretary was suspended for five years for sexual harassment of female referees. He was also sentenced for a fine of 20,000 Euros.

After careful consideration of the written statements of victims and the evidence collected during investigations, the adjudicatory chamber was confident that Mr. Zhoya had broken three articles of code of ethics.“, can we read on the FIFA website. The instance adds. FIFA takes a firm stance against any form of abuse in football. The Ethics Committee handles all such cases according to the Code of Ethics, taking into consideration the particularity of each case.. »

“The ZIFA is a huge disappointment”

Two of the alleged victims, referees, had filed formal complaints to the ZIFA board. The allegations were also forwarded directly to FIFA, CAF, and COSAFA. One of them even criticised FIFA and his federation’s silence.The Zifa is a big disappointment. I was certain that they would not disappoint me. I was hopeful that FIFA would fight for us female referees, but they let me down. My question is, why does FIFA keep silent? I don’t think they should rush to make my case a priority, but at the very least show me that you are willing to help.»

These referees won their case against FIFA. They also filed a complaint to the Zimbabwean police. An investigation was opened in December 2021.
