ETHIOPIA – The country in the grip of terrorists: concern for a possible escalation of the conflict

The atrocious conflict in Tigray continues in its worst form. After a brief respite on August 24, fighting resumed and is rapidly expanding. The involvement of a new terrorist organization linked to the TPLF is being reported by the Tigray Popular Liberation Front (OLA). This terrorist group is also linked to terrorist groups Al Shabab, Shene, and Tigray. Sources from the Ethiopian federal government claim that it is the Ogaden National Liberation Front.

“There is deep concern about the possibility of an escalation in the conflict, now resumed using force and the possible involvement by other Ethiopian peoples,” says a religious source who asked for anonymity because of security reasons. Sources are deeply concerned and added that they hope the Oromo people will seek democratic dialogue, not arms.
This situation is not sustainable. Hunger continues to take lives, especially after the seizure 12 fuel-laden tankers from the Word Food Program deposits. Without these tanks, it is impossible for humanitarian aid to be provided to the population.

A further contact was made in Somalia. The news came out with concern: “What happens to the Somalis in Ogaden? A large part of the country feels it is land occupied Ethiopians are they view the OLNF favorably.”

Somali Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre is originally from Ogaden and the new Somali government has changed its policy compared to Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed’s government with regards to Abiy’s. The entire region is now being watched closely for possible escalation in the conflict in Ogaden.

The Somalis of Ogaden National Liberation Front (ONLF) have been involved in a long-running campaign against the Ethiopian government. Even the OLF (Oromo Liberation Front), is accused by Amhara of massacring civilians along with OLA. (AP/GF) (Agenzia Fides, 7/9/2022)
