Over 976, 000 Students to take Grade 12 National Exam

More than 976, 000 students will take the 2014 Ethiopian academic year grade 12 national examination, says the Ministry of Education.

Ministry of Education

The number has jumped by over a 300, 000 from last year after authorities allowed students from conflict-hit areas to retake the exam due to a drop in results.

On Tuesday, the Education Ministry said a total of 976,018 grade 12 students will sit for the exam in two rounds.

The first round will see a majority of Grade 12 students take the exam beginning Oct 10, 2022.

Students in the social science stream will take the exam from Monday, Oct 10, to Wednesday, Oct 13, 2022.

Students in the Natural Science stream will also sit for the exam the following week from Oct 18 to Oct 21, 2021.

The second round exam for students who could not sit for the exam due to Security-related challenges, will be scheduled within a month, the Ministry said.

This year, the grade 12 national examination will for the first time be administered in public university compasses.

Education officials decided to administer the exam in universities in a bid to keep the integrity of the exam process.

In the 2013 academic year, nearly 618,000 grade 12 students sat for the national exam held in more than 2,200 exam centers.

More than 90% were able to take the exam in November 2021.

The remaining students took it four months later in February after authorities delayed the exam in areas affected by conflict.

Of the total examinees, more than 152,000 students were able to score 50 and above – enough to join public universities. About 42% of them were female.
