Govt to Open Humaniterian Routs to Areas under ENDF’s Control

Preparations are underway to open up aid routes and restore services to areas under the federal army’s control in Tigray region, the government said on Tuesday.

The government Communication Services (GCS) confirmed that the Ethiopian National Defense Force or ENDF captured three towns from the rebel group TPLF.

“The ENDF has taken control of the towns of Shire, Alamata, and Korem without fighting in urban areas,” the GCS said said in a statement

Concerted efforts in collaboration with humanitarian groups are underway to bring aid and restore services to areas under Endf’s control.

Accordingly, Shire airport will be open to deliver humanitarian aid.

Roads in the North Gondar-Shire and Kombolcha-Dessie-Woldiya-Kobo- Alamata routes will also be opened, it said.

The GCS said the national army was taking “maximum care” to protect civilians in its counter-offensive.

On Monday, the government recomited to African Union-led peace talks to resolve the conflict, but said it would seize federal facilities including airports.

Redwan Hussien, Security Adviser to the Prime Minister office, said the conflict was not spiraling – a thinly veiled rebuke of U.N. Secretary General Antonio Guterres who said on Monday it was spiraling out of control.

“It was spiraling when being expanded to other regions. Now, it’s just being extinguished & degenerating,” Redwan said in a tweet.
