Com-Gen Demelash Elected to Lead Eastern Africa Police Chiefs Agency
The Ethiopian Federal Police Commissioner-General Demelash Gebremichael has been elected to lead the Eastern Africa Police Chiefs Cooperation Organization (EAPCCO).

According to the Federal Police, Commissioner-General Demelash was elected as president of the regional police chiefs organization in the 24th general meeting of EAOCCO, currently taking place in Addis Ababa.
He has replaced the Chief of the National Police of DR Congo, Dieudonné Bahigwa, to lead the organization that facilitates cooperation among law enforcement agencies to combat transnational organized crime in the subregion.
The official handover ceremony took place on Thursday in the presence of the President of Ethiopia, Sahle-Work Zewde.
The police chiefs, which started their five-day-long general meeting on Monday, are deliberating on transborder crimes, human trafficking, illegal arms, and drug trafficking, among other issues affecting the security of the region.
Established in 1998, EAPCCO is a regional police body whose membership consists of Chiefs of Police from 14 East African countries.
