How to register for National Graduate Admission Test (GAT)

The Ministry of Education (MoE), in partnership with Addis Ababa University (AAU), the Institute of Educational Research (IER)-Testing Center and Ethio Telecom is pleased to announce the test administration dates of the Graduate Admission Test (GAT) at national level.

Please follow the following steps to register and get your GAT admission ticket.

There are two steps to apply for GAT:

A) Using the Addis Ababa University portal (portal.aau.edu.et), and

B) Using Telebirr SuperApp.

1. A. You can apply for GAT using the Addis Ababa University portal:

1. 1 Go to https://Portal.aau.edu.et [Open]
2. 2 Select ‘Apply for GAT’ [click]
3. 3 Complete the Registration Form [fill it with the details of the test taker ]
4. 4 Upload your passport-size photo [test taker’s photo]
5. 5 Click on Submit button [Click]
6. 6 Copy the system generated application number
7. 7 Pay the GAT fee of 1000 (one thousand) birr using Telebirr payment system. (Foreign applicants are required to pay an equivalent of USD 50 in Ethiopian Birr; foreigners who apply for the GAT must register first by paying one thousand birr and later they have to pay the remaining balance to Addis Ababa University Commercial Bank of Ethiopia account number 1000087392067 and submit copy of the payment receipt to both the Testing Center Telegram Channel and show the copy of the payment receipt to the supervisor at your Exam Hall).
8. 8 Using your application number download and print your GAT Admission Ticket at the AAU portal which is required to get admission to your exam hall.
9. 9 Follow further announcements on AAU’s website (http://www.aau.edu.et/) and the Telegram channel IER-Testing Center (https://t.me/aauGAT)

• B. You can apply for GAT using Telebirr SuperApp
• 1. Open your Telebirr SuperApp
• 2. Select Addis Ababa University – GAT
• 3. Complete the Registration Form [fill it with the details of the test taker ]
• 4. Upload your passport-size photo [test taker’s photo]
• 5. Click on Submit button [Click]
• 6. Copy the system generated application number
• 7. Pay the GAT fee of 1000 (one thousand) birr using Telebirr payment system. (Foreign applicants are required to pay an equivalent of USD 50 in Ethiopian Birr; foreigners who apply for the GAT must register first by paying one thousand birr and later they have to pay the remaining balance to Addis Ababa University Commercial Bank of Ethiopia account number 1000087392067 and submit copy of the payment receipt to both the Testing Center Telegram Channel and show the copy of the payment receipt to the supervisor at your Exam Hall).
• 8. Using your application number download and print your GAT Admission Ticket at the AAU portal [portal.aau.edu.et] which is required to get admission to your exam hall.
• 9. Follow further announcements on AAU’s website (http://www.aau.edu.et/) and the Telegram channel IER-Testing Center (https://t.me/aauGAT)

Please note the following:

1. a) The GAT will be administered digitally, using the secure network infrastructure of the Ministry of Education. For detailed information about the exam, including exam dates, registration procedure, and other relevant updates, please visit the official website and join the Telegram channel mentioned above.
2. b) There will be Mock Exam on GAT, which is a practice test to make test takers familiar with internet based testing (do not miss this opportunity).
3. c) Visually impaired applicants will take the GAT with the help of a screen reader, JAWS; individual readers are not allowed for the GAT. Test takers with other forms of disabilities will be scheduled to rooms that are convenient for their conditions. Your requests must be channeled through the Testing Center Telegram Channel well ahead of time.
