Ethiopian Airlines has launched thrice-weekly flights to Nekemte’s Gudina Tumsa Airport, coinciding with the inauguration of new airport facilities.

The new flights to Gudina Tumsa Airport will follow this schedule:

Nekemte (NEK) to Addis Ababa (ADD): Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays
Ethiopian Airlines CEO Mesfin Tasew expressed joy over the completion of Gudina Tumsa Airport and the launch of new flights, emphasizing the airline’s commitment to expanding domestic destinations and strengthening regional connectivity.

The 1.1 billion ETB Gudina Tumsa Airport project includes a new airfield, access road, watch towers, and a temporary terminal. Construction of a permanent terminal will begin next year. The runway can accommodate Boeing 737-800 Max aircraft, with an apron capacity for two B737-800 Max or four Q-400 aircraft. Ethiopian Airlines plans to expand its domestic network to 31 destinations by 2035, upgrading airports and facilities nationwide.

The new airport facility is part of Ethiopian Airlines’ efforts to enhance socio-economic and cultural connections within Ethiopia. Recent projects include Addis Ababa Bole International Airport Terminal I, Axum Yohannes IV Airport, Jinka Airport Terminal, and Gode Ugaas Miraad Airport, with more to come.
