Regional Support Fund Collection Committee announces 9.2 mln birr support for IDPs

Benishangul-Gumuz State Metekel Zone has so far collected 9.2 million birr in support of the displaced people.

Head of the Regional Agriculture and Natural Resources Bureau and Chairperson of the Displaced Persons Support Committee in Tekel Zone, Babeker Khalifa, said the committee is working to collect 50 million birr for the displaced people in the state, adding that it has collected 9.2 million birr in one week.

He said the committee has received good response from leaders and government employees of the state, Assosa and Kamashi zones, Maona Komo Special Woreda and Assosa City Administration.

With the support of the state government institutions, leaders and civil servants, 4.5 million birr was obtained from Assosa Zone, over 1.5 million birr from Kamashi Zone, over 550,000 birr from Maona Komo Special Woreda and more than 500,000 birr from Asosa City Administration. He also pointed out that he was present.

He added that he will work from the bottom of the committee to mobilize support through discussions with the community.
He said support has been requested for all Ethiopian higher institutions, adding that support has been received from investors and non-governmental organizations in the state.

The committee is working to identify the gaps that are not covered by the federal and state disaster risk management, he said.

He said the committee is working to ensure that the assistance provided to the displaced is distributed to all citizens at one center and called on the donors to do their part.
