Misleading image spread by Sudan Tribune!

The Sudan Tribune website reported yesterday that Sudanese forces attacked Ethiopian troops in the Al-Fashaga area.

The website used a photo of the burnt and damaged military vehicles, which states that the vehicles in the photo belong to the Ethiopian Defense Forces, which were damaged in yesterday’s attack on the village of Berhet in Sudan.

In addition to the Sudan Tribune, we have seen several Sudanese media outlets broadcast this photo with the same message. BBC Radio could not confirm the image, but said the burnt military vehicles were being distributed on social media.

However, an Ethiopian check confirmed that the photo was taken 11 months ago near the town of Yichela in the central zone of the Tigray region by reuters journalist. Ethiopia Check compared the photo with photo taken by reuters journalist Julia Paravichini used a photo taken on July 10, 2021 near the town of Yichela in the Tigray region, central zone. In contrast, a photo shared by the Sudan Tribune confirmed that the damaged vehicles and trees were similar to a Reuters photo.

The Ethiopian government has denied Sudan’s allegations, saying the army was not at the scene of the clashes and that Sudanese forces had infiltrated Ethiopian territory and clashed with local militias.
