Residents advised to rehabilitate forests – Kenya News Agency
Residents of Elgeyo Marakwet have been urged by the government to protect the environment and replace dead trees and water catchment zones.
During a field trip at Endo in Marakwet East Sub County’s Endo, Simon Osumba, Deputy County Commissioner, encouraged each ward to establish tree nurseries with at least 4,000 seedlings for use in restoration efforts.
He expressed disappointment at the loss of large swathes of natural forests in the County to make way for agricultural activities.
DCC advised them to seek technical advice from government extension officials on all aspects development to improve their earnings and livelihoods.
He asked farmers to conserve trees, and to avoid using environmentally harmful practices in their farming operations.
