An Appeal from the Ethiopian Catholic Church concerning the current situation: NO MORE WAR!

To all parties concerned

The Ethiopian Catholic Church, together with other religious organizations, has repeatedly called for peace in the conflict in northern Ethiopia. We are deeply shocked to see that the war in the area has resumed. Many lives have been taken and assets destroyed by the war. The war has caused crisis for children, women, and elderly, particularly because of the scars it left.

While we all hope for peace talks and are waiting to make our contributions, our innocent people are suffering hunger, disease and psychological damage, displaced, and our nation is struggling to meet the rising cost of living. It is completely unacceptable for any of the parties that they go to war again. It is obvious that war is destroying national wealth and causing economic depression.

The Church is deeply concerned and longs to stop the suffering of the Tigray, Amhara and Afar people. She promises to participate in the dialogue process that leads to peace, either by herself or in collaboration with other Religious Institutes.

We appeal to all sides to give up their weapons and go back to the peace options. We want to encourage dialogue and a solution that ends the suffering of our people.

We accept the prayer call of the Inter Religious Council of Ethiopia and urge all Catholics, and all people of Ethiopia, to join in Prayers for Peace and Stability in our beloved Country Ethiopia for five days in the month of Pagumen.
