Former Kavango councillor stays in custody after shooting incident

Damian Nakambare is currently in custody after appearing in court Tuesday to face charges of allegedly shooting his nephew.

Nakambare (47), was arrested Sunday after he allegedly shot his nephew, 42, in the abdomen with a 9mm gun at Mayara, a Kavango West village.

Nakambare’s nephew refused to give him keys to a vehicle that he had been given for his transport business. According to police, the shooting occurred in the presence officers.

Nakambare was charged with attempted murder and negligent handling of firearms.

Barry Mufana, magistrate, postponed Nakambare’s case to 8 November to allow for further investigations.

The magistrate ordered that Nakambare be kept in custody while Nakambare was being tried.

The state was represented in this case by Godfry Shivolo (public prosecutor).

The injured man is in critical but stable condition at Nankudu District Hospital.
