Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) named Getachew Reda as President of the Tigray Region’s interim administration

The move is stated to be a part of the Pretoria agreement reached between the Tigray People Liberation Front (TPLF) and the federal government in order to put an end to the war in North Ethiopia.

The appointment comes barely one day after the TPLF was removed from the list of terrorist organizations by the parliament. A statement issued by the Office of the Prime Minister indicates that the new president of the interim administration has been entrusted with the duty of building an inclusive administration that ensures the representation of different political parties.

The TPLF nominated Getachew as president of the newly formed interim administration last week. He succeeded Debretsion Gebremichael (PhD), who had led the region since 2018.
