15 employees of the Ethiopian Coffee and Tea Authority working at various checkpoints arrested on suspicion of corruption

According to Ethiopian Federal Police announcement 15 employees of the Ethiopian Coffee and Tea Authority working at various checkpoints have been arrested on suspicion of corruption.

The suspects were arrested based on a information gathered from the public. The suspects were arrested after cooperative follow up by Ethiopian Federal Police, National Intelligence and Security Service, and Ethiopian Coffee and Tea Authority cooperated at Jimma Gate, Wellega Gate, Dese Gate, Tulu Dimtu Gate, Gojam Gate, Aqaki Gate and Bishoftu Gate, Bule Hora Gate and other checkpoints.

In the operation,  golds, money of various countries, as well as illegal guns and Kalashnikov rifles with ammunition, were seized. The investigation team revealed that while the suspects were assigned to work at different checkpoints, they ignored the responsibility given to them by the official office to record and transfer the coffee exported from the origin to the destination.

The individuals have been arrested on suspicion of corruption by illegally selling coffee in the country, depriving our country of the foreign exchange it earns from abroad and causing great damage to the economy, the federal police said.
