Minor Earthquake Felt: 4.1 M earthquake occurred, 56km NW of Seattle, Washington

An earthquake has been felt near Victoria, British Columbia. There are no reports of major damage or injuries and none are expected. More information is available from Natural Resources Canada.

The National Tsunami Warning Center has stated a tsunami is NOT expected.

Magnitude: 4.1

Location: 56 km NW of Seattle, Washington, USA

Depth: 39 km

  1. Remain Calm:  
    • Stay calm and move carefully, checking for unstable objects and other hazards above and around you
  2. Check for damage & hazards: 
    • Put on sturdy shoes and protective clothing before checking for damage and hazards
    • If you smell gas or rotten eggs, leave the building immediately and call 9-1-1 or your gas company’s emergency phone number
  3. Listen to instructions: 
    • Follow local information on the web, social media, radio and TV
    • If further actions are required in your community, local officials will provide instruction
  4. Report the earthquake: 
    • Do NOT call 9-1-1 to report the earthquake
    • If you felt the earthquake, report it at Earthquakes Canada
