Sudan’s anti-war civilian bloc withdraws from #AU-led meeting

The Coordination of Civil Democratic Forces (#Taqaddum), a Sudanese civilian alliance, announced on Wednesday its withdrawal from the first phase of political dialogue organized by the African Union-led mechanism on Sudan, citing a lack of transparency and concerns over the meeting’s design.

Taqaddum had received an invitation to participate in the talks scheduled to take place in #Addis_Abeba, #Ethiopia, from July 20 to 25, 2024. In a statement, the alliance’s general secretariat said, “After careful consideration of the invitation, we decided to apologize for our [non] participation in the meeting due to the lack of sufficient details about the parties involved and the methodology followed in designing the process.”

The alliance stressed its commitment to achieving sustainable peace in Sudan, emphasizing that the “optimal methodology” is for Sudanese forces to lead the process through genuine consultations with all parties.

Taqaddum pointed out that the African Union High-Level Mechanism had not involved civilian force representatives in consultations on the meeting’s design, despite it being intended for them.
