Ethiopia: #Sudan seeking to purchase 1,000 megawatts electric power from Ethiopia

Ethiopian Electric Power (EEP) Corporate Planning Executive Director, Andualem Sia, said various African countries, including Sudan, have expressed interest in purchasing electricity from Ethiopia.

Earlier, #SouthSudan, #Kenya and #Djibouti have expressed interest in purchasing power from Ethiopia, he said.
“Sudan needs 1,000 megawatts of power,” he said told ENA, adding EEP is in talks with Sudanese experts. EEP staff went to Khartoum last month, he said, and that Sudanese experts would soon arrive in Ethiopia to continue the talks.
Furthermore, the construction of a 500 Kilowatt transmission line for Kenya’s electricity supply is nearing completion and members of the Kenyan parliament will visit Ethiopia next week to discuss the issue, according to Andualem

At least 36 people were killed and 32 others injured in fresh tribal clashes in Sudan’s South Darfur State, local authorities announced on Monday.

“A tribal clash broke out between tribal components at Mandawa, Marmasa and Majangary areas in South Darfur State,” Musa Mahdi, South Darfur State Governor, said in a statement.

He added that the fighting broke out on Saturday and continued until Sunday morning.
