The promising development in Ethiopia with Prosperity Party, the ruling Party
Since its formation in late 2019, the Prosperity Party (PP) has reshaped Ethiopia’s political, economic, and social landscape. As the ruling party under Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, it replaced the long-standing, ethnically structured Ethiopian People’s Revolutionary Democratic Front (EPRDF). The party’s foundational philosophy, Medemer (synergy or coming together), aims to unite a historically fractured nation.
Despite severe regional conflicts, economic pressures, and complex geopolitical shifts, several promising developments highlight the party’s current governance trajectory.
Political Evolution and Governance Reforms
The Prosperity Party was established to shift Ethiopia away from ethnic federalism toward a more civic, pan-Ethiopian national identity.
