Wife of Chiefs’ Eric Bieniemy Allegedly Shot by Couple’s Son at Virginia Home
Ethio Affairs, Addis Ababa — Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy is dealing with a family tragedy after his wife, Mia Bieniemy, was allegedly shot at the couple’s home in Ashburn, Virginia, in what authorities describe as a domestic shooting.
According to law enforcement officials, deputies responded to the residence on Sunday evening after receiving reports of a shooting. Mia Bieniemy, 57, was found suffering from multiple gunshot wounds and was rushed to a nearby hospital. Authorities said she is in stable condition after receiving medical treatment.
Investigators allege that the couple’s 27-year-old son, Elijah Zion Bieniemy, was responsible for the shooting. He was arrested shortly after the incident and has been charged with malicious wounding, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and discharging a firearm inside a dwelling. Officials said he is being held without bond while the investigation continues.
Eric Bieniemy was in Missouri with the Kansas City Chiefs for training camp when the incident occurred. He was absent from Monday’s practice as he traveled to be with his family.
Chiefs head coach Andy Reid expressed support for Bieniemy during a media briefing, saying the organization’s thoughts are with the family during this difficult time. Reid also confirmed that Mia Bieniemy’s condition had stabilized and emphasized that the team’s priority is supporting Bieniemy while he focuses on his family.
The Kansas City Chiefs also acknowledged the incident in a brief statement, asking for privacy and offering their thoughts and prayers to the Bieniemy family.
Authorities have not disclosed a possible motive, and the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office said the investigation remains ongoing. Officials have not indicated whether additional charges may be filed as detectives continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
