Severe Heat and High Humidity Alert Issued Across Egypt as Humidity Levels Approach 100%
Egypt’s Meteorological Authority has warned residents of continued high humidity levels across the country, saying the extreme moisture is the main reason people are experiencing uncomfortable and intensified heat conditions.
The warning came as Egypt faces a new wave of very hot weather, with satellite images showing the continuation of elevated temperatures nationwide. The authority said the combination of high temperatures and humidity is increasing the feeling of heat beyond the actual recorded temperatures.
According to the forecast, humidity levels are expected to remain particularly high in several regions. In Cairo and Lower Egypt, nighttime humidity is projected to reach between 80% and 85%, while coastal areas could experience humidity levels of 90% to 95%.
Northern Upper Egypt is expected to see nighttime humidity between 50% and 60%, while southern Upper Egypt will record lower humidity levels ranging from 30% to 35%.
The weather agency described Friday’s conditions as hot and humid in the early morning, extremely hot and humid during the daytime in most areas, and warm with humidity continuing through the night.
Forecast temperatures show Cairo reaching a maximum of 37°C, with a perceived temperature of around 39°C. Northern Upper Egypt is expected to reach 38°C, feeling closer to 40°C, while southern Upper Egypt could record 42°C with a heat index of about 43°C.
Authorities are urging citizens to take precautions during peak heat hours, stay hydrated, avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, and remain alert to weather updates as the heatwave continues.
