Hundreds Flee Tigray Into Sudan as Border Fighting Intensifies
Hundreds of civilians from Ethiopia’s Tigray region have crossed into neighboring Sudan over the past two days after renewed fighting erupted near the Ethiopia–Sudan border, according to DW Africa. Reports indicate that some wounded fighters are among those seeking refuge across the border.
The latest clashes began on Saturday in the Shererina area of western Tigray, where heavy artillery fire and drone attacks were reportedly used during the fighting. The Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) has accused Ethiopia’s federal government of launching a large-scale infantry offensive in the area. Meanwhile, Tigray’s interim administration alleges that Addis Ababa has failed to fully implement the Pretoria Peace Agreement, maintained restrictions that it describes as a blockade, and increased drone strikes and military deployments.
