U.S. Says Strait of Hormuz Remains Open as More Than 1,000 Commercial Ships Transit Safely
The United States has said that the southern route through the Strait of Hormuz remains open and accessible to all commercial vessels navigating the strategic international waterway, despite continued regional tensions. According to the U.S. military, shipping operations through the route are continuing without interruption.
In a statement shared by the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), the military said U.S. forces have assisted more than 1,000 commercial vessels in safely transiting the Strait of Hormuz over the past three months. CENTCOM added that the transits have continued despite what it described as “unwarranted Iranian aggression,” emphasizing that commercial shipping remains a priority for regional maritime security.
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most important maritime chokepoints, carrying a significant share of global oil and liquefied natural gas shipments. Recent geopolitical tensions have heightened concerns over navigation through the waterway, although commercial traffic continues under security monitoring.
