The Education USA Scholars Program (ESP) helps academically exceptional international students gain entrance to higher education in the United States. The Public Affairs Section (PAS) of the US Embassy in Addis Abeba is looking for 20 Ethiopian students to join the 2024 ESP program, which requires participation in an organized cohort advising program. The purpose is to help high-achieving Ethiopian students gain admission to US schools and universities in order to improve their academic futures, with the ultimate goal of developing highly competent and extensively educated leaders to build tomorrow’s Ethiopia.

The program works with students through regularly scheduled training sessions to help them navigate the application process for studying in the United States and applying for financial aid. The curriculum also offers academic counseling, standardized test preparation (TOEFL, SAT), and aid with college application essay writing. Students will be chosen based on their academic records, essays, and interviews. Among the 20 finalist candidates, 15 highly qualified, economically disadvantaged students will be chosen to benefit from the Opportunity Program Fund (OPF) program, which covers costs for standardized tests and U.S. visa fees, and the first few successful candidates will also receive a round-trip ticket to the United States. The remaining 5 students will participate in the training program free of charge, but they are expected to cover the preparation expenses from their own sources. Mobile data costs will be covered for both program participants.
